Why A Training Head Isn't Just An Apprentice's Best Friend.

You may think that a training head is no longer necessary now you’ve got years of experience behind you and that they’re only for apprentices who aren’t allowed to be let loose on real people yet. However, it’s always useful to have one tucked away in the cupboard just in case – even if it’s just to scare the junior.
Practice hair-ups
With the rise of mobile wedding hairstylists travelling to venues, you may not get as many occasion hair bookings as you used to. Doll heads are a great tool to have at your disposal so you can keep in touch with techniques that you haven’t practised in a while. They say practise makes perfect, so when you get a bride booking in for their wedding day hair, anything less than perfect won’t do. Trials are handy so that your client can try a few styles before deciding on ‘the one’, but to get that style just right, you can practise on a mannequin head until your heart’s content.
Trial colours
New products are being released by brands all the time, and you probably don’t want to commit to investing in anything new until you’ve tried it first. If it’s hair colour you’re dealing with, client’s will need a skin test prior to the appointment before you can use it, and after all that, it may not be something you want to continue with after all. Having a training head can save a lot of time, as you can try colours and hair products on them to see results on real hair and make your decision.
Practise techniques
New techniques and trends are always taking social media by storm, and a training head can act as your guinea pig so you can acquaint yourself with unfamiliar styles and colours. Not used to using a paddle? Need to practise your curling wand skills? A training head can be your best friend.
Time Saving
Having a training head handy can also save you precious time in the salon. If a client isn’t happy with results of a certain colour or an updo isn’t quite panning out like you’d hoped, having to fix the service or start again can mess up your schedule and could end up costing you money in the long run. You can take your head home and attach it to almost any table surface and practice at your leisure.
There are training heads with different hair colours available, so you can make sure when the real appointment comes along you’re well versed in whichever request comes your way. You can even practise on heads with integrated grey hair, bleached and tinted hair to get accurate results, as well as different textured hair so every potential client is satisfied.
